UMW Quilting Ministry

The UMW Quilting Ministry meets at the church on the second Saturday of each month in Rooms 52-54 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Newcomers are always welcome.  Come to sew, visit or chat.  In the morning, quilters design, cut and sew quilt tops for Quilts of Valor.  The afternoon is used to work on their own personal quilt projects.  Bring your own equipment and projects to work on.  Bring your own sack lunch; snacks are optional.  Coffee will be furnished.  If you would like to join the quilting group, contact Peggy Anderson, the UMW Quilting Ministry leader, at 748-4890.

Quilts of Valor
The UMW Quilting Ministry sews Quilts of Valor.  These beautiful quilt creations of patriotic fabric and colors are made specifically to give to wounded soldiers returning from conflict to let them know that people care.  Quilters from all over the country contribute their masterpieces to the Quilts of Valor Foundation which acts as a clearing house for the quilts and dispenses them to requesting VA Chaplains.  They also donate quilts directly to the local VA Chaplain to distribute to the wounded in a special ceremony.  A special label is sewn to the back of each quilt so the soldier will know who made it.      

Finished quilts are blessed on Fathers' Day by the pastors and are on display during Canal Days in the church's Chapel.  They are also displayed in August at the Maumee Valley Steam Show.  In October or November, some are presented to the local VA and others to known wounded or touched-by-war veterans.
 

 

Quilt Show

The UMW Quilting Ministry will be hosting their 2nd Annual Quilt Show during New Haven Canal Days, June 7, 8, & 9.  Please note that quilts displayed last year will not be accepted.  Quilters must send a picture with their preregistration form.  We will serve lunch.  Quilters need to get their sewing machines humming.  Registration forms with further details will be sent out.  If you do not receive a registration form by April, please call the church office.
